Gliding Induction
The Gliding Induction Courses (GICs)
are three short courses to introduce Air Cadets to formal upper
air flying
training in the Vigilant T.1, in preparation for the Gliding Scholarship Course.
The Gliding Induction is a three part
course, each separate sorties of 20mins,
25mins and 30mins with a Graded Pilot or
Instructor. Course Trainees are given a full
brief on flight safety and airfield
discipline prior to starting their flying. They will also be
given brief on the
exercises that they will be introduced to in the
air.
Eligibility
This course is
available to all Air Cadets from the CCF(RAF) and ATC
who; are over the age of 13 years and 3 months, have completed
the airmanship aspect of the RAF Proficiency Part 1 / First Class.
Selection Requirements
There are no
selection requirements for this course.
Attendance
Gliding
Induction Courses are usually covered over several visits to a
VGS. However, should tasking permit, all three sorties may be
flown. Courses are allocated in blocks of 3 or 8 to individual
Sections/Squadrons, who are then responsible for filling the
courses and insuring they attend.
Course Award
Trainees who
successfully complete one or more of the three parts to the Gliding Induction Course are awarded a
Certificate by the OC VGS.
